Ok, so this morning I was going over the bike cleaning it (no water, just spray and wipe). Go back out to crank it up this afternoon, key in, run position, pull clutch in, hit the start button and I get a short clunking noise and then nothing. The engine light comes on and a small red dot on the right side of the speedometer comes on. The bike is a 2014 and has a whopping 12 miles on it!

I realized when I was cleaning it I must have knocked the RUN button to the ON position and it was there for a couple of hours before I tried to start the bike. But would the EFI being engaged for this period of time seriously make the bike not start for some reason?

Plenty of gas, lights strong and bright, what the heck could this be?

The run switch being on should not make any difference if the key is off, unless you have the new "keyless ignition"?
If you do have keyless or your key was in the on position a couple of hours would probably drain the battery enough to have the lights on but not enough power to turn it over.

 

EFI bikes need proper voltage to run properly. Bad/loose battery connections can cause a EFI bike to run poorly.
Charge the battery properly and see what it does.
