Default Tire pressure question 2014 Sportster 1200T

I have a 2014 Sportster Superlow 1200T (bought new) and I am absolutely loving the bike. I've been doing 90 mile or so rides, highway, freeways, and streets, almost every weekend I can, and the bike has about 3500 miles on it.

I check and adjust the tire pressure every weekend, i.e. Saturday morning, before riding. The front tire rarely needs more than 3 or so PSI to get it to the specified 36PSI. The rear tire, however, is often 10 or even 15 PSI below the specified 42PSI. (This is after the bike has been ridden the prior weekend and sat during the week.) Is this normal?

It is not normal to lose 10 to 15 psi. I have never lost more than 6 psi and that is after being stored for the winter. After sitting for just a week, I have only lost a maximum of 3 psi for either time regardless of how many miles I rode it the week before. I would definitely get that tire looked at. Sounds like you have a leak somewhere.

Could be the tyre is leaking past the beads and rim for some reason (more common on old vehicles), or you have a sneaky little puncture.

Well it was two very tiny nails in the tire. He** and other comments.

That's a bummer, but hopefully all is well once more.

Glad you asked and found the tire gremlin...better than being 90+ miles from home and finding out the "hard way." Ride-on!

Yes. And thanks to the guys on this forum, in this thread, who told me that there had to be a problem. There was.

Better to pay dough for a new tire than to have it fail on a ride.
