1200C is a great bike. Hell. 883C is a great bike. It's not a bagger. Some make it one. Yeah, you can buy a used Sportie for under 4 grand. By the time you put all your stuff on it, you shot that all to heck. A new one can cost you big bucks with all the add-ons. Most Harley owners don't think much about money issues. It just takes time to make it your bike. I read all the time about buying a Harley on a budget. If you have a price issue, to maintain the bike properly, and to make it your own, it costs. If you want a bike that you can buy at a cheap price easy to maintain and fun to ride, buy a ricer copy. If you want a real bike that is a blast to ride and will become a part of your family, buy a Harley.

Vinny can you tell me how tall you are? Im thinking of getting a roadster myself as a first bike but im 6' 2 so im not sure if its to small for me, Since you have a picture of yourself on one, I can get some kind of gauge on how I would look on one.

Sorry I meant sportster, I dont know why I wrote roadster just was tired i geuss

I'm 5'8" at 190lbs.The Bike Is an 06 883 Low..I tell you what bobby.Either foward controls or highway pegs are a must for a fella of your size I would think..I have the highway pegs and left the mid controls . I'm a short guy so mids work fine for me. As you can see the adjustable highway pegs I baught from harley allow me to stretch out nicely. Most taller guys opt for the foward controls and they do just fine and have plenty of room. 2 up for taller fellas might be a bit tight..If you click on the myspace link under my sigs,You will see what my legs look like on the mid controls.

Also there are other things you can do for room..Change the seat. There are plenty of seats out there that will push you back a bit.Or you can change the handle bars and put risers on them..A guy your size with your reach..Maybe ape hangers will work well..Or mini apes ya know..

But again there are plenty of tall fellas out here with sportsters and they do just fine..

good luck bro..

I have the 1200 C. Admittedly the Sportster is the most "crowded" when it comes to two up riding. It is more than adequate in the power department but if you find out you do mostly two up riding you might entertain the idea someday of getting a bigger bike like a Dyna or Softail.
Actually, the Sportster is no more crowded for the passenger than the Dyna. My wife and I have ridden both and they are very similar in that regard. I'm 5'11' and my wife is 5'9' amd we rode 2-up on our Sportster all the time.

That said, if acceptance in the HarleyWorld 'club' is an important factor in your decision, a Sportster is not the right answer (at least around whereI live).

Hi there.

I have a 96 XL1200S that I just bought a week ago. Went on my first real ride with it yesterday. I am 6'0" tall, and weigh 195lbs or so. I have forward-controls, and it rides GREAT for me. I could stay on it all day long.

Here is a picture of me on it, for your analysis...
