"No matter how much power you have on a bike, you'll always think that a bit more would be nice..."
This is not true for me. I've ridden GP bikes that will lift the front wheel -wildly- at over 100mph. I imagine it's like having an 18" *******. You can only use (all of) it in an approved area, and you still have to be very, very careful, or someone's gonna get hurt. -Using any less than all of it would be disappointing.

I've lusted after the 883 for years. I had a picture of one in my high school locker (I'm 36 now). I tested one yesterday and also rode a 1200. I still love the 883. My dad just bought an XL50 a few weeks ago. It's quite nice. But the number "eight-eighty-three" just rolls so nicely. I don't/won't ride with somebody who doesn't respect my choice of bikes.
-I'm not being sarcastic or lying when I say that if I won the lottery I would buy a 2007 883c. -But, I want the mid-mount controls.
Until that happens, I'll keep searching for a good used model for about $4k.

Can you get a Sporty to sound like a Harley? A Sporty sounds like a snotty Harley, the rest sound like they need a rebuild.

Of all the Harley riders I know, the one who rides the most miles and has a long commute rides an old 883.There's a reason why it's the longestproduction model in history.

ORIGINAL: whaap

As far as trips go, I bought my 1200 C on eBay. It was located in Cookville, Tn. I figured it was a good opportunity to have another adventure in life so I bought it andflew there from Az to pick it up and bring it back. It was 1700 miles bringing it home. That was more miles than the bike had on it when I bought it (1300). It was a neat experience. Would it have been more comfortable on a bigger bike? Yes. Two of the days coming back were 10 hour days and as I've said before you might figure in the fact that I'm 72.

Nothing at all is wrong with the 883.A few people feel the need to justify purchases so they have to make a big deal about WHY their bike is bigger and better...don't worry about it - ride your own ride and f'em if they don't like it ...that's what HD is all about by the way - not worrying about what everyone else thinks.

Here's how bad the 883 Sportster is- I bought my wife a new one in 2006 and it is sucha blast to ride that I bought myself a new one in 07. Just a piece of advice- if you are planning to purchase one, the 883C (custom) is like a cadillac compared to the 883L (low). My wife's 06 is a custom and rides and handles great and my 07 low rides really rough and doesn't handle nearly as well. Just my opinion.

No complaint's here 15'000 miles and counting except for the occasional small bike remark from someone with small ***** syndrome.

06 883 LOW HERE..I love it. I'll keep it forever..Last of the carb bikes..Looks great, Sounds great with the VH Straight ShotHS pipes..I ride to work 40 miles sothe highway pegs are a must for me as the mid controls can be a pain in the legs..But mids are great for around town and handleing reasons. I still have the stock seat whichI like. Power is no problem at all..I have stage one aircleaner and rejet the carbfor the pipes. The Bike runs like a raped ape. It has a real sweet spot at about 65 to 70 MPH.

Take one for a test drive before you buy..You wont be disappointed
Buy Black it's the fastest color..

How do you guys find the seat? I've just come back from a 80 mile ride on my new 07 883, love the bike but, the seat was a pain in the ****, is there a slightly thicker option (single seat BTW)
