RE: synthetic or regular???
Synthetic oil sticks to engine parts longer when the bike is parked, so you don't get the dry start up like with dyno oil. It also will help your bike run cooler. I used regular 20/50 when I first got my bike, then switched to synthetic after reading a very informative paper. I notice my bike runs cooler and just seems smoother all together.

RE: synthetic or regular???
i like synthetic, and i have even used syn 3, but why do they want $50.00 more to use 3 quarts( i only add 3 at changes), of oil that you can buy in the showroom for $9.99 a quart? i declare stealership. i used a local independent authorized harley tech, mobile 1 v-twin and a k&n filter for $135. downright chicanery going on here gentlemen.

RE: synthetic or regular???
i got so distracted by the prices i forgot the question. here in texas last summer i changed from dino to syn 3. my oil temp dropped almost 10 degrees when it was over 100 outside. this really makes me more comfortable when i ride to work downtown dallas rush hours. alot of folks say not to worry about oil temp since the safety features will protect the engine. you can debate this one forever, but what can it hurt to give your toy a little champagne with the beer?

Most peopledon't realize it, and just run a synthetic 20W-50all year, but Harley themself recommend using a SAE 50 weight oil if the temperature is above 60 degrees, and a SAE 60 weight oil if the temperature is above 80 degrees, and that is for their newer EVO and TC engines.
