Default air cleaner breather question

i have never used external breathers on any of my previous bikes. Now, Im looking for a new air cleaner for my '15 Iron. Am I reading into this too much? It's rare that I see a bike with external breather system and Im not sure if I want to go this route. I don't like the idea of breather bolts but the discrete hose system DK offers would be ok.

If a big concern then why wouldn't everyone run external?

BTW, I have read the other posts and I have seen the pics provided by DK

Well the pictures and explanation posted by DK pretty much sums it up. Why doesn't everyone that knows about the mod run one, that's basically their choice and or they don't care about performance and durability. Or they agree with the EPA mandate and hug trees.

Performance-wise, I do not think it makes a difference. But if the external breathers can prolong the life of your engine, i do not see a downside to using them. I run the outlaw 587 and have not had any issues with them.

Eliminating the hot air from the breather entering the intake helps a little. The cooler the air the better the ignition. It wont be a substantial boost that you will feel, but every little bit helps and adds up in the long run.

Dependability is my main concern. Thanks for the quick replies!! Anything that can prolong the life of the engine is a plus.

Is there a OEM air breather mod that can be done to direct some outside air into the intake?
