Grips - how do they install?
Not in love with my stock grips, would like to try something else.
Back in the day, grips were installed by filling the grip with gas, dump it out, push the grip on the bar and let it dry (yea, its been a while since I installed grips..); I expect that's no longer the way its done.
I can't imagine its very hard but how's it done?

I have the white nostalgic Harley grips , which are pretty easy compared to some.
Grab your factory service manual (for those torque specs).
The left harley grip just slid off and the new one is retained by the switch housing on the new one (no glue needed).
Aftermarket grips are usually glued on , you could cut the left grip off if need be , but I like to keep the stock ones myself.
The right switch housing must be disassembled and the throttle cables need to be loosened to do the right grip.
The first thing to do is apply the front brake , stick a cardboard shim between the lever and housing and make sure it stays applied until you are done.
Failure to do this will almost certainly brake the brake light switch , there will be swearing involved afterward if you don't do this.
There are 2 ferrules that must be reused on the ends of the throttle cables , they have a habit of rolling about 9 miles if they hit a concrete floor.
Don't assume the throttle cables were ever adjusted properly from the factory.
Refer to the manual on the correct throttle cable adjustments and screw torque values.
Check and make sure the switch wires don't get pinched (watch the dimples) when you reassemble.

Some of the left hand grips will just slide off if they are the pinched type. The ones that are glued, can at times be a pain to get off if you want to save them and put them back on when trading it in. I always try twisting them and most of the time they will break free. Takes a little bit of effort twisting them back and forth, but its achievable. I look at it this way with stubborn parts, if it wasn't born there it will come out. If they were glued on, clean the handle bar good before inserting the new ones.
