Hey everyone I am in the process of finishing up the touring shocks on my Nightster. I figure I can get some advice from the people that already have them installed. Whats the best way on putting air in the shocks? I know HD makes a pump for around $50 or so but if there is a cheaper way I am all ears. Thanks for any info!

Small bicycle pumps at a Trek or other bike shop will have some about 8 inches long that will do the job for about $15.

But seriously folks...you probably should get a pump with a gauge installed. And it should be very low capacity. Air shocks have very low capacity, and are easy to overfill, and destroy. That's what is nice about the HD pump: built in gauge, air release, low volume, and it provides HD certified air.

 

I've used a short bicycle pump for the last 25 years, with a cheap low pressure pencil gauge (from my off-road days). That was just making use of stuff I had to hand. There are alternative pumps available similar to the Harley pump which are a bit cheaper, look on Ebay for a 'PRO Motorcycle air shock pump'.

 

Check eBay, I see used HD pumps on there cheap sometimes. I love mine because of the gauge and the fact that I can take the hose off without releasing air. The little button to let air out while it is attached us really handy too. If there's another bike type pump out there that can do all that I would get it.
