Default Bonehead move and stripped clutch cable threads at the primary case.

Bike 2000 XL-1200 sporty
So last week I decided to install my new Energy one clutch plates. Everything went really well until I put the clutch cable back in and stripped it at the case. Can anyone recommend a fix or do I have to buy a new primary cover. I would think a hela coil would work or as someone suggested drill a little bigger and use JB weld and tap it. has anyone run into this and fixed it?

Just pissed at myself for doing this. Any help or if you have a 94-2003 primary case in chrome or polished alum for sale I'd be open to either.

Remove it and try to rethread it with a tap. If that doesn't work, heli coil kit.

I would go ahead a helicoil it..it is a cheap, strong and permanent fix..make sure and countersink the helicoil so that the o-ring on the clutch cable still seats..they also make a epoxy thread repair kit that works well...by Loctite, called forma thread...I have used it and it works well..

Make sure you do him a solid. Any time you have a neighbor willing to do that kind of stuff for you, you have to show appreciation in some way or another that isn't just a "thank you". It's not often you get a good neighbor who has useful skills.
