RE: potential sportster
I'm with you two guys. I love my 1996 1200. Our Great Grandfathers would be rolling over in their graves to hear us whining about vibrations....
NEWER is not always BETTER. (Just sometimes.) But not in the vibration (and exhaust) departments... new, stock exhausts suck.

RE: potential sportster
Thank you for all your help so far.
So.......good deal or not?
2001 Sportster XL1200C with about 3200 miles. Has: Drag bars (love the look of them), Vance & Hines pipes, and S&S carb. Asking $6450.
Also, what are your opinions, should I spend the extra ~$3500 and get a new one, or is this a good deal that shouldn't be passed up? I have the money for a new one, but obviously I'd rather save it for purchases in the future.
Thanks!

I totally agree about the pre 2004 bikes not vibrating as bad as most people think. I've ridden two 06's & was not blown away at all by the difference in the so called vibration between them & my 2000, & neither was the 2 guys that have the 06's. Mine has more chrome, more HP, more torque, & I paid alot less than they did. I'm not bashing the newer bikes at, they're all great bikes. I just get tired hearing how bad the pre 04's vibrate. I'm 52 yrs old with a bad back, & I have no complaints about my bike.
niskyne, don't be afraid to buy an older bike. They ride just fine. As far as the price goes, as long as the bike you buy puts a big smile on your face, it's a good deal. J. M. O.

[sm=rant.gif] My '01 doesn't vibrate badly at all. I have done 300-400miles at highway speeds (55-75mph), no problems. Carbs and no rubber, all the way!!! The way a Harley should be. [8D]
Seriously, it's all in what you want. Raw or Refined. For me, sportster=raw.. Strip it down, tweak it out, make it your own.. thats what I like to do, you may be different. Ride-on...
