Default Running light issue

I just picked up a 2002 Hugger, and I noticed that the left front turn signal running light won't come on. The turn signal works, and the bulb is good (I checked with a new bulb). I'm assuming I'm going to have to chase a short or a ground in the wiring. Can anyone give me a good place to start, or should I just start following the wire stating at the signal? I'm hoping i can find the problem without having to remove the tank.

Thanks in advance.

First place to start would be with a test light. Take out the bulb hook the ground to the frame and carefully poke the leads in the bulb hole. Just don't cross the signal light and the running light tabs. Confirm no power at the light bulb holder. Wish I had a better name for it. If no power there then you have to follow the wires back to the next plug. Check for power there....keep chasing it back until you find where the problem is.

Mine does that periodically. There's a connector under the tank that isn't a weather tite or Deutch connector. I have to pop it open occassionally, clean it and all is good. Last time I packed some die-electric grease in it.

I found the issue. Who ever owned the bike before me just shrink wrapped the wires from the turn signal together, and then shrink wrapped the bundle. I soldered the wires, heat shrinked each wire and the bundle. Everything is working now.

I also ordered a service manual today. I'm planning on tearing into this bike in the next few months, so hopefully it will help keep any stupid questions to a minimum.
