Breakin Maintenancet
My 1000 mile is coming up and my appt is not for another month and I don't want to have down time on my bike. Would it be a good idea for me to go through and change my tranny fluid and oil? I know they check a couple of other things so what is the pros to having them do it other than the professional look over?
Also synthetic wouldn't be a bad idea at 1000 either, the dealership says other wise but that is the dealership.

Damn, that sucks. This is why I do my own service. A freekin month!!!!??????????
Having said that, I do believe it's a good idea to have the 1,000 mile service done at the stealer.
First of all, is there another dealer within 100 miles that will get you in and out quicker?? Ya don't have to take it to the same place. I certainly didn't.
Secondly, just how many miles will you go beyond 1,000 in the next month? If you're just going to be at 1,250 or so in another month. I wouldn't worry about it. It's the same oil that will be good for 5,000 miles before the next service. The main reason for the 1,000 mile is to check for anything that the factory missed putting together correctly.
That is a bit simplistic I know, but, if it's only going to be a few hundred miles over, I don't think it's a big deal...Now, if you ride 1,000 miles or more, in a month....that's a different story.
