Hey everyone,

Going to change my engine oil this week or next week. I was curious on how often you guys change the primary oil. I don't think it sees the type of abuse the engine oil does, so I'm not sure if it's something that needs to be changed as often.

It's a 2010 883 with about 3500 miles on it. I ride about 1000-1500 miles a year. I got it used last year with 2000 miles on it. I changed both the oils when I got it last year in April or May... I use full synth oil and HD filter. (Mobil 1 V-Twin) and the syn oil from HD for the primary.

 

Every 5k as called for by the manual in my bike. I believe it is every 10k for the rubbermounts (2006+ model years*).

As per the book. Having three bikes they are different.

 

For years 2005 and earlier, the interval is 5,000 miles.
In 2006 the tranny gears were changed to helical cut and the interval was increased to 10,000 miles.

This information is in both the Owners Manual and the Factory Service Manual.

 

Yeah I guess I should have looked at manual.

I don't see anything about every year for anything though. This includes engine oil. I'm at 4100 miles. Just checked it

 

I change it whenever i change my engine oil.

I change my oil every 500-1000...2500-3000.... mi... whenever i get bored. I'm stupid... more $ than brains.

I never go longer than 2500-3000. I use hd synth 20/50 in both the engine and the primary. that's just me.

i'm sure others will say that's crazy but, f#$@ them. it's my bike, i do what i want with it.

 

I just change it at 5000 miles together with motor oil for convenience or once a year regardless of the miles.

 

yeah to each his own I guess.

 

Both every 5k and since i'm driving two wheeled lawn mower technology using synthetic oil i could safely do 7.5k oil and tranny change with zero risk.
