Default Pillion seat with solo springer seat

I'm looking at a pad so that the wife can ride but I don't want to take that PITA springer seat off. The one HD sells looks ok but seems a little skinny. Any other options out there.

This is the setup I got from La Rosa with my spring seat. The pad sticks to the fender with 6 suction cups. I used it to rest my backpack on mostly when commuting to work. It stayed on at speeds up to 100 mph. Not sure about how comfy it is.

My wife is worth much more to me than a skinny pad, especially one held on with suction pads as some of them are! I suspect you will have difficulty finding a proper seat for Mrs P that will work with your springer. Might be worth looking for a suitable seat, with her approval, then solving how to use it! Or buying a one-piece touring seat......

Her solution would be for me to trade it in for a Road King.

I had a badlander seat with my previous bike, with her blessing, but during our first outing I ran across a larger than usual pot hole and she claims it broke her *** and afterwards she refused to ride with that seat again. She rarely rides with me so that suction cup seat has piqued my interest. Just trying to find something as cushy as possible.

Wink

Cushy? Mmmmmmmmmmm - Road King..........

Having owned Harleys for donkey's years they nearly all suffer from awful shocks. So as well as looking for a cushy seat consider shopping around for some truly good shocks. They can take the 'shocks' out of a passenger's ride (as well as yours!). Ohlins have transformed my Glide, for much the same reason. A decent seat was a great help in improving comfort, but the shocks sealed the deal. We can now travel much further and in far greater comfort. We also no longer bottom out, even when heavily loaded with luggage.

Don't think I'm old enough yet for a couch on wheels, the only bike that would get me to trade in right now would be a Breakout.

Upgraded shocks would be great but a little out of my reach for now.

+1 on shocks. 12.5 or taller. I can tell you from experience and wasted money that the HD pad is useless. Even my 10 year old son said it wasn't big enough for him and he is a skinny kid. 10 miles and he said he was done. Save your $$ if she isn't a masochist.

Better shocks and the LaRosa might be a good start if its cushier than the HD...

9/10 rides she'll be on will be less than 3 miles. If she gets real froggy, a 30 mile trip might happen. And that's a big "might."

If I had the cash, the shocks would he the way to go, but I need that money for a quick detach windshield first.

I'd still vote the HD as too small and punishing for an adult.

Agreed! We have to recognise that the ladies in our lives have sit bones that are further apart than ours, so if we get a wide bucket to sit in then, the most important person in our lives deserves one as well. Anything less ain't right.
