Default Gotta love NJ potholes... wheel damage

Took the bike out for the first time yesterday. Only have my permit so far, was riding with a few neighbors who are licenced so I could go legally. Anyway, long story short... put about four miles on the thing, BAM... hit a pothole I didn't see, and my neighbor took one look at my front wheel and pulled the group over. Dented the thing pretty solid.

It's a 2007 883 Custom with 85 miles on the bike, and I dented the wheel already. I guess these spoked wheels aren't built to handle NJ roads. Any suggestions? Places to fix this? Replace the wheel with something sturdier?

I'm pretty put off by it. One small pothole did this. Tried banging it out a bit, it's not budging the other way.

Believe it or not.............An under inflated tire is usually why this happens. put the bike on a lift.loosen the spokes in that area, and it might bang out somewhat

Was 35 psi before riding. Bike sat for two weeks because of crap weather, I got a bit **** and checked the pressure before going out on it's maiden voyage.

Send a bill to the city for not fixing their pot holes.

They'll give me the same excuse they gave my brother when he bent the wheel on his Acura.

Something along the lines of: "The roads are torn up because we plow for your safety. It takes time to repair all the holes made by our plows. We're sorry for any inconvenience."

The bike's off the road for now as I'm currently out of state. But other than that, it's pretty annoying.

That sucks man. You could look at it as an excuse to get brand new fancy rims though![sm=happy046.gif]

Those WERE fancy rims. I'm thinking I might just go back to a big, chrome, cast wheel though.

that blows. I thought Pittsburgh was the pothole capital. I saw one that literally would have killed me at the speed I was going. missed it by a couple of feet. easily 3 ft wide 2 ft front to back, and a foot deep.

Give Hogpro a call and get some nice mag chrome wheels. Not only will they set your bike apart from the pack, but you can get some really sweet wheels that will increase your performance and handling....Good luck and watch out for those pot holes.
