Default Put too much oil in and after I drained some, my oil light is on

I have a 2014 Harley 883 Sportster. I put too much oil in when I changed it last week. I rode it about 40 miles and parked it for a week. I found out there was too much oil, so I drained some. I tried to start my bike and it wouldn't start because the oil pressure light is on. Now I'm not sure what to do. I almost drained too much, so I know the level isn't too high.

What makes you thing you overfilled in the first place? Plus the oil light is activated by pressure not quantity.

I noticed some oil on the ground, then I pulled the dipstick and it was pretty full. What do I have to do to get the light off, so I can start it? It will not do anything at this point.

Hey, no worries, we all had to learn somehow. At least your bike is running so you can enjoy it. One good ride and you'll forget all about it.

Make sure you check the oil when the bike is hot, parked on the kickstand and on a level surface. Should be no more than half way between the lines.

wait a minute...bike not running and oil light on..that is normal...I think your main problem was that you accidentally sat on the panic button..next time, take a big breath, relax and go through the starting procedure one more time making sure that you didn't miss any steps...live and learn.. and don't you worry we won't laugh, 'til you leave...
