Default Sportster 48-Removing Rear rocker box cover for high temp paint

Hello All,

Going to paint all the chrome on my bike and planning on starting on the rocker covers. Although how do you take off the rear rocker cover? I understand taking the bolts out and all that but what about the wire that runs from inside the engine? How do you take it off or unplug to get the cover off? Thanks for the help in advance.

Follow that wire out of the hole in the rocker cover. You will find a connector. Disconnect it, and then when you pull the rocker cover off, it will just go thru that hole.

This is something I am interested in as well. You will need new gaskets. I hear cometic is good.

Let us know how it goes and post pix.

Here is a thread that can help you:

Is the connector behind all that plastic or is it located in the battery box?

So far I've painted the rocker box covers, forward controls, gas cap, air cleaner cover. Tomorrow I'll paint the oil reservoir and battery covers, finish taking the rear fender and lights off. I spoke to my father, Jack of all trades, and he said that the original gaskets would be fine as long as I didn't break them or flatten them out. I only have 2700 miles on the bike so he said it wouldn't hurt.

I'm going to pull the fender off, Bob it (guy at work has a awesome saw and will do it for free) re paint the fender, cut the fender supports (not sure what those are called). Hopefully this week I'm going to order my exhaust. Twisted customs hookah header.
