Default buying an iron 883 with 100 kit brand new

Hey guys, this is my first thread so pardon me if this is the wrong section or if there is a stupid question thread I missed.

I was wondering if any of you iron owners have ever bought a brand new iron, and added the stage 1 1200 kit installed at time of purchase. If so was labor waived since it was a brand new bike? What did it cost you?

I've never heard of the labor charges being waived since the shop still has to do the work after delivery (It won't come from the factory that way), but I guess negotiating can produce miracles. Worth trying as condition of the sale.

I wanted the iron for the small peanut tank but wanted the 1200 kit. My dealer basically said it would be cheaper to buy a 1200 and then get the peanut tank.

The 1200 kit installed was 2200.

I opted for a used 2001 1200.

Yes it can be done...at a cost (nothing's free). For stage-1 & 1200 kit you're probably look'n at a shade over $2-large (e.g. $2K).

Better off finding a nice used Nightster (IMO), or buying the Iron883, saving some ching and adding the kit later from:

1. Hammer - http://hammerperf.com/xlbigborekits.shtml
2. NRHS - http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ekit8831200.shtml
3. Rev Perf - http://www.revperf.com/product_info.php?products_id=116

This way it's (1) cheaper and (2) you learn how to wrench (req'd to be "true" biker).

Thanks guys. This makes sense. I appreciate the replies. I think I will look around for a good deal on a nightster or pick up a used iron and do the 1250 kit. A small shop near me will do the hammer 1250 kit (parts and labor) for 1300$

Do your homework on the hammer kits. The price they quoted you has to be for just the 1250 kit itself. Don't expect a 100HP+ screamer for that price. It will still have more power and run better than as an 883, but make sure you know what you're getting. They have different level head porting services, different cams, etc.

That quote wasn't for a hammer 100 hp kit. It was just a basic kit. And port and polish done by the shop

the Iron 883 doesnt have the peanut tank. It has the 3.3. THe 2.2 gallon peanut tank is on the '48 and the '72. Both those models have the 1200.
