Has anyone done a wire tuck with a 4.5 gallon tank?
About to do a wire tuck on my 48 and was wondering if anyone knows if I can do the wire tuck without lifting my 4.5 gallon tank? I don't want to cut wires so if I have to I will lift the tank. I am also concerned about the loss of fuel access with the tank lift. Does anyone know the average loss of fuel with a 1" and 2" lift? If I have to lift it, I would like to lift the tank as little as possible to do the wire tuck and lose as little access to fuel as possible. Please advise.

Forum member Rog48 has lifted and tucked his 4.5 tank. Hopefully he'll chime in. Mileage loss I think is in the 5% range. I know a few who have done the 2.1 with no lift but it requires removing all the quick detach wire connectors and re-splicing at offset spots to avoid them all bunching up in one place. I've also heard you can do it without altering the connectors with a 1.5 lift. I don't think the 4.5 under tank channel is different than the 2.1 so I'm ASSuming this info applies. DK Customs will probably also chime in as they sell the kits and have a lot of great experience.

I did a wire tuck on my 2013 Custom. You don't have to do a lift. Isn't really possible with stock riser/speedo on the Custom any way. I used the F6 coil and ignition relocation kit from DK Customs and bought their F4 tape (self fusing). You don't have to cut any wires. You will need to remove the tank to cut out the existing plastic and ties and test fit your arrangement. Since you're not doing a lift you can "hide" some of the harnesses on the side of the backbone. They don't have to all be hidden on top like the peanut tanks with lifts.

Here is a link on how to do a wire tuck with no tank lift. Even though this is for the 3.3 gallon tank, all applies for the 4.5 also.

If you did a 1.5" tank lift, it would make the wire tuck easier, and a little cleaner...but as you can see in the above link, it is not necessary.
If you did to do a 1.5" tank lift, you would lose about 10-15 miles in range until empty. If you are not filling your tank with more than 4 gallons right now, you would never experience any drop in usable capacity, since your not using all the capacity you have right now anyway. HOWEVER, if do have fill-ups where you are putting in 4.2-4.5 gallons, then with the 1.5" tank lift, you will see that 10-15 mile drop in range before needing to fill up.

Where did you relocate the ignition to? I have the same bike and was considering this very modification....looks great, btw!
Also...how long did this take you to do? Difficulty on of 1-10?
Thanks!

I think I spent 3 or 4 hours on it but I took my time. It's more time consuming than difficult with all the test fitting. There's a thread on the site with step by step instructions that really helps. I added comments to it as well.
There's really no way to screw it up unless you accidentally cut some wires when removing the factory plastic keepers and ties.
It may take a little longer if you reconnect a horn. I didn't like the option I was left with so I ended up leaving the horn disconnected and just tucked the loose wire.
I'd probably give it a 3 or 4 on the difficulty level if that.
Good luck with it and let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!
