So I replaced my rear brake and turn signals with a sparto rear (2 wire dual filament bulb uses body of light for ground) & 2 generic LED turn signals. I used the following connections;

Left turn violet
Right turn brown
Tied both ground together to black ground from harness
Running light - blue from harness to black on Sparto
Brake light- red with yellow stripe from harness to red on Sparto

I have a Badlands III signal equalizer as well.

Running light works
Brake light works
Left signal works

Right signal causes the running light to flash alternatively with the signal flash.

It did this before I hooked up the left LED signal and no change after.

I have tried it with and without the load equalizer and it makes no difference.

I bought the bike in Canada but the odometer is in miles so I'm pretty sure the bike was imported here by the previous owner. I see in the Clymer manual that the orange/yellow wire is the running light for international models but I don't think that applies here.

This seems pretty basic but I'm stumped!

 

I also just tried the 4 way flasher and it caused the tail light to do the same thing.
