Default are mustang wide tripper seats even close in comfort to wide vintage?

The title pretty much says it all... but I'm gearing up for a long ride, and am looking for a more comfortable seat than the stock 1200c's 2-up. I know Mustang Wide Vintage is highly recommended for long distance comfort, but I really like the diamond stitch available on the tripper. Either way, I'd be getting the optional backrest as well.

Here's the one I'm considering:

Does anybody have experience with both that could mention how the two stack up? Anyone with a tripper that rides hundreds of miles regularly?

Thanks!

I have the Wide Tripper Solo with diamond stitching (no backrest though). It's amazing. It took a little while to break in but not too bad, and I've done a few 500 mile days and lots of 200 mile days on mine. I can only compare it to stock, and not the Wide Vintage, but it's night and day over stock.
I'm sure your suspension on your 1200c is a lot better than my Iron, so I'm not sure how much of a difference you will notice but it is noticeable.

It's all subjective though. The sad thing is the only way to know is to buy one and try it, and if it doesn't work out, sell it and move on.

Thanks Lonestar, that's good feedback to hear. How do you usually feel at the end of a 200 mile day? How about a 500?

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the tripper... and my girl ordered the vintage. Maybe once they're both broken in we can swap for a bit and see how they compare

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Sorry, just saw this. Well, I'm 45 so let's start with that. But in good shape, not overweight or a couch potato. 5'10".

After a 200 mile day I feel it. But I can get up and ride the next day no problem.
After a 500 mile day, I can be hurting. Depending on the weather (read hot, if I got dehydrated), I'm wiped out. No fault of the seat. Sore, but could ride the next day.

On the stock seat? A 200 mile day felt like a 500 day does now on the Mustang. A 500 mile day on the stock seat would kick my ***.

This is with stock suspension, though well broken in at 13,000 miles now.

I think you'll like either of those seats you ordered, they'll be light years ahead of stock.

I put the wide vintage solo w/ backrest on my 05 xlc 883. My longest day ride with it so far is 400 miles. I think you'll appreciate both of the Mustang seats. BTW, I'm 72.

Thanks guys. We both have our seats installed, but our road trip might get cancelled due to weather The forecast for our departure date dropped almost 20 degrees since I ordered my seat.

First impressions of the tripper: It's very low and narrow at the front compared to the stock seat (and the mustang), I almost feel like I need extenders for my forward controls now. The seat is rather stiff, but it's only been ridden about 50 miles so far... so it may break in a bit softer. That said, stiff gives good support... so other than bad bumps, it felt pretty comfortable. The backrest totally changes the feel of the bike, and will be great for road trips. I'll report more when we've put some long days of riding in.

Here's a pic of the tripper on my bike: are mustang wide tripper seats even close in comfort to wide vintage?-ru9g4erl.jpg

Not even close for me. (215lbs) Even after haveing mean city cycles redo it was not comfortable for me. (It was improved from a 20 minute seat to a 45 minute one and I had a backrest!) Wide nostalgic puts it to shame.

@switchback - sorry to hear that. I really hope mine agrees with me more. The first 50 mile ride was probably about an hour, and it seemed ok for that.

For what it's worth, I'm ~5'11" and ~150.
