Nightster closed loop EFI & Pipes

Nightster closed loop EFI & Pipes
I know this subject is old and tired but I thought it was interesing that in the Nightster review in last months Cycle World stated that the Nightster EFI system was a closed loop system with an O2 sensor in each pipe, and went on to say that pipe changes would most likely not require a change on the intake side. I took this to mean a remapping as it indicated the "system" would readjust itself..... So am I reading into this that I should not worry if I change slip-on's... Of course that is what I wanted to read into it ;-).....

That's how I'm reading it as well. If it's just slip-ons you are OK. If you put a full system on or change/modify the air cleaner then you have to re-map. I'll let you know tomorrow, I have a set of Rinehart slip-ons on the way. I'm just going to run it with the slip-ons only and see how it goes. If I need to re-map I'll do it later.

The dealer told me that Screamin Eagle slip-ons would not require a remap, but all other slip-ons would [:@]. Kind of hard to believe.

Having said that, there may be some truth in the statement. The '07 SE slip ons arestreet legal in 48 states, they aren't much louder/better than stock. But they are still just Slip On mufflers with baffles, and not a full systemor wide open pipes. I ordered Rinehart slip on MUFFLERSwith baffles which can't be all that different from the SE MUFFLERS with baffles, offering similar back pressures. From what I have read, closed loop EFI systems can make minor adjustments only and work within a small range. So any modifications beyond basic slip ons would require a re-map. The O2 sensors areoff the header pipesand measure A/F ratiosbefore the mufflers so I don't think there should much difference.Time will tell.
