Default Riding and wind

When is it not a good idea to ride due to wind speed? I live in NE Colorado and was wondering if the weather says 30-25 mph wind if it's a good day to leave the bike in the garage. I have ridden in probably 30-40 mph crosswind and it was not pleasant. Just going to work today (5 miles) and was wondering when the sanity level is reached. 200 miles away from end of break-in on my 1200 C.

Thanks

I don't mind the wind.It does kick up dust and crap. But if you wear protective clothing it shouldn't be a big factor.

When the wind is swirling around in a circle @ 75 mph or more............... I'd prolly leave it in the garage..........

I have ridden in those wind speeds, and like you say, NOT that enjoyable. Unless I HAD to, I would choose to leave it at home, if I knew the winds were going to be much stronger than that.
If only 5 miles, that is not too bad, but I got caught in those types of winds (possibly stronger gusts), and had to ride 2up for 50 miles. NOT the best of times.
Be safe, and only ride in what you feel comfortable in. Getting blown across lanes is kinda dangerous!

Wind didn't use to bother me, unless it was really heavy. But since I got the detachable weenie Shield, the wind is a problem when the shield is on. It tends to catch crosswinds. I only ride with the shield on long interstate trips, but wind is an issue.

with that flag on the back I would have thought the windshield would be the least of your problems.

I have a Sportster and a Road King and I know what you mean about the crosswind blowing you around. But on the Road King I don't have a problemwith 25 or 30 mph wind theRK is heaver then the Sporty. But When I'm stop at a light and the crosswind hit me I can feel it on the RK.

I did a quick run to work one evening when there was a storm rolling in. I decided to take the interstate to make the trip as quick as possible and I really had to fight to stay in my lane. Also, my half helmet wasn't cinched up tight enough when I got on the highway and the thing felt like it was being pulled off my head for most of the trip (fortunately I only travelled about 7 or 8 miles on the highway)...If I had to do it over, I definitely would have worn my full face to break some of the wind. I think my next purchase will be a quick detach windshield. I agree with many of the posters here - it isn't the most pleasant experience.

The thing I hate the most is the feeling of the tires getting swept out from underneath. I hate that. Within reason, I would say ride to what you comfortable with. 30-40 mph crosswind is about as much as I want to see. The front range gusts in CO can get really nasty too.

Wind doesn't bother me. It's wind and rain that does.
