When is Harley going to roll out a 6-speed Sporty. It would be so much nicer on the freeways, especially for the 883s, and better gas mileage, too.

And by the complaints of some of the 1200s in here when it comes to going slow, it might help that problem too, seeing how they could then perhaps gear 1st a little lower for the 1200s if they had a 6th gear.

They'd better do something pretty soon, seeing how the weight of a Sportykeeps going up, up, up every year as well.

 

That's strange... I have no complaints at all on my '05 tranny... In fact that is why a went ahead with the '05 rather than the '06... The gears are cut a little different on the latter and I wanted the older style transmission...

I guess it's like they say... different strokes for different folks...[8D]

I am happy with a 5 speed tranny. I easily forget what gear I'm in most of the time as it is.Adding one more would just make it harder to remember it. Nothing worse than downshifting into the wrong gear and having the rear end slide out on you because of the wrong choice.

 

Me, too. I usually forget if I'm in 4th or 5th and when I call for more torque, downshifting sets me straight as I then get a crotch full of torque!!!

 

I wouldn't mind an extra gear for the highway...

 

Unless you spend alot of time cruising over 75mph it would be a waist in my opinion in fact cruising at 55 sometimes when riding 2 up I have to downshift to 4th.

 

I find the 5 speeds more than adequate on my 2005 XL1200R - certainly better than the old 4-speeds, but not a full-time effort in shifting all the time as I suspect might be the case if I had six speeds.I also prefer the straight-cut gears to the newer helical gears in the tranny.

 

whos complaining about there tranny in slow speed manuvers? I have yet to ride a motorcycle you didnt have to feather the clutch when creeping except for a yamaha trials 250 that I use to trail ride on.

 

I don't see the problem either. I don't even hit 5th gear until about 65 mph. If I do it much before that it lugs the motor.

I don't think they need a higher gear but one more lower gear. For "plonking" like in slow speed traffic, cruising the beaches and crawling the boulevards.
