I agree on a sixth gear would be nice. When running 75-80 mph it would be good(justa little higher then 5th). It would be nice to have the RPM at around 3,000 at 80 mphor so. Lets wait and see what the 2008 model year sportster will have. It would be a great way to get sportster sales up for the next year.

If they go with a 6th gear, it will really be one great sales promo for the Sporties and HD, IMO. Just imagine how many Sporty owners will chew and fidget on it awhle and then just 'have to have it.' They will be trading in their older ones left and right, I predict, especially the younger generation of Sporty owners.

It would really be nicer for the 883's to have a higher 6th gear on the freeways; the 1200's 5th gear is already higher geared than the 883's 5th gear. It would also increase the gas mileage, and it would cut down on the noise factor as well while cruising the highways.

I have a feeling that Harley's been holding this back for awhile, waiting to use it at the right time when they need a sales boost on their Sporties.

BTW, there would be less vibration for the 883's on the freeway as well, if they could keep the R's down with a 6th gear.

that would be nice. First is a little tall. But fifth is fine, in fact I've found the smooth spot to be about 3300 RPM/70mph on my 1200.

I like 'em the way they are with the 5 speed, although, I wouldnt mind seeing them shake things up by stepping up to a 1400cc with 6 gears and label it a Screamin Eagle Sportster. That would boost some sales, not like they really need to though......

I know what you mean, I seldom go over 70mph, it shakes quite a bit compare to a sport bike at high speed, I keep the speed below to maintain a comfortable ride. I do agree a 6-speed transmission will be nice.

I haven't noticed any kind of shaking what so ever andI average 65-70[8D]It seems to be the place it likes to cruise[&:]But when I run highway the 6th would be awesome when hitting 80+

Well, going into 5th has plenty of range from 65 +. 6th gear on a 883 would be nuts. My 883 had to struggle in the wind in 5th. Just an observation.
