A couple of indys in the town our MoCo is located jack the price up because they know your there to save $$ over the stealer. Next town over the powersports shops are a good amount cheaper. Once you have the tools though a tire change isn't a big deal.

A lot of auto shops can mount them, as many (if not most) of them now have rim-clamp tire machines in order to service the fancy rims on today's cars and trucks. They won't be able to balance them other than static and even that's only if they have an old bubble balancer still around. Dyna Beads take care of that, though.

My local service station tries to charge me 10 bucks apiece to mount mine. I always force a 20 on him but it's like pulling teeth to get him to accept it. Needless to say, any automotive work that I can't do myself or don't want to do goes there.

No it's a liability thing. They won't install anything that they don't sell. Can't blame them. These days people will spin things around and sue your *** off.

Spot On!!! Find a good Indy, establish a relationship with them and forget the dealership ever existed.

You will be in much better shape.

Never go to a dealer unless you need warranty work done.

I'm not convinced on the tire beads for balancing.

There isn't a whole lot of mark up on tires (except speciality tires). Most of the money is made on mounting and balancing.

Purchased DNA 21" Mammoth front wheel with tire, stainless rotor, and organic brake pads online and took the bike to the local Harley dealership to install. Charged me 1 hour labor to install everything and they had to remove the tire and install a tube.

So I guess not all dealerships are alike. Perhaps some more conservative/cautious than others. I also have more than 4 years under my extended warranty on my 2011 sportster with 54k miles. In the event a related item needed repair, did not want them saying we did not install the wheel/tire so it's not covered under warranty.

My opinion, Go indy. Will cost no more than 120.

I will never again leave my bike at a dealer...

The two HD dealers around here will just make you sign a waiver, only if you're a repeat customer.

If you take off the rear your self, make sure you have a shop manual on how to re-line it. There's also a ton of YouTube videos out there too.
