Default Upgraded your air cleaner? Please show me

Anyone upgraded the stock air cleaner on your Sporty? Please post pic and let me know what else needs to be done i.e. change exhaust or adjust fuel mixture, etc? Not familiar with the electronic sequential port fuel injection on my 2011 Sportster XL1200L. Is it just a bolt-on? Also any info on the different types of air cleaners i.e. stage 1 is greatly appreciated?

Thanks in advance for the information.

The intake is a simple bolt-on item. It takes 30 minutes or less and is a nice way to let your motor breath properly.

I bought mine from Figure Machine. Their stuff is really nice and similar quality to RSD or PM but at reasonable prices. Some unique designs too.

If you only change the inlet and not the exhaust, you can get away without a fuel/air remap. However, your bike, even stock, will react very well to a proper tune. It's something worth looking at because HD sets up these bikes very lean to meet emissions requirements. Any free flowing intake or exhaust just makes it more lean. The onboard ECM can make minor adjustment, so intake OR exhaust can be compensated for, it can't compensate for both.

If you replace inlet and exhaust, you need a remap. Several tuner options exist at varying budgets. A few different methods of achieving results.

Thanks for the info SLV. I just got my bike professionally tuned so good to know don't need to remap with only an intake mod.

Kevin, thanks for the links. Don't plan to change out both my intake and exhaust so shouldn't have any concerns with air/fuel mixture (EFI). I believe you mentioned replacing the air cleaner is a simple bolt-on.

Also thanks for the email regarding your do-it-yourself seat mods and info on DK's HiFlow air cleaners.

I just read that when installing high flow air breathers, all EFI-equipped models require ECM calibration. What is ECM calibration?

Engine Control Module - ECM. Just adding an air cleaner you should be fine but as others have stated the motor is tuned lean from the factory so a tuner will do some good. There are a couple on the market, XIED, Power Commander, FuelPak, and Screaming Eagle are the big ones. Do some research and get which ever one works best for your goals and pocket book.

Thanks will334i for the info. Will do my research into an ECM.
