Default Which Sportster

Hi Guys, I ordered a 2002 Sportster 1200 C from Japan. It is on it's way to the Philippines. I've been sent the picture and when i checked, the 883 and 1200 looks exactly the same to me. How do i know i got the right bike. I see no badge for displacement on Harley's unlike Japanese bikes. Can anyone help? How do i know just by looking at the picture. Or what do i look for when it gets here to make sure it's a 1200. Thanks a lot for any help.

Welcome,

If the bike is a 2002 - 1200C the 5th-7th characters of the VIN number should be CGP.

1988 - UP Sportsters

5th, 6th, and 7th digit is the model code

example: 1HD1CAP15LY123456 is a XLH1200

CAM = XLH883
CFM = XLH883 Deluxe

CAP = XLH1200
CGP = 1200 Custom

CEM = XLH883 Hugger
CHP = 1200 Sport

Any easy way with Customs is that on the 1200engine is black with polished fins with chrome on everything. If it is an 883C, the engine is silver coated. There might be chrome on the bottom area of the engine if it is used, but unless they took they engine out, the actual engine is silver coated.

(Compare engines of mine and CHarley)

Hi Guys, thanks a lot. That will definitely solve the problem when the papers arrive. By the way, i zoomed the no. located in the engine near the gear shift and beside where it says 1 N 2 3 4 5 refering to the shift order, the no. is LAM1134285. I guess thats the engine no, can we tell by those nos.? Thanks again.

No, the number on the engine case is the last part of the VIN number. It's the 9th - last digits of the full VIN.

Thanks Again to all of you, will let you know what it is when the bike arrives. Will still be getting the bike regardless if it's an 883 or 1200. Just hope it's a 1200 as agreed. Thanks again.

For those that are curious about the complete breakdown of all the digits in the VIN #, I found it on page 2-6 of my Harley Service Manual.
