all in all it cost me 300 bucks in gaskets, oil and tools. I also did a full service on it, thx to the harley bible it was super easy.

BTW, I have a digital version of the manual for my 2011 sportster so if anyone need to do a specific job, send me a message and I can send you the pages you need. paid 17 bucks for it so might as well share it....

Gonna go ride now
Good to hear. I'd still pull the inspection cover off after an hour or two and see what the oil looked like; probably a lot of that milky crud was hiding in non draining areas and might need to be flushed (more oil changes) a couple more times. You don't want any milky residue in there; it doesn't get hot enough to boil out like engine oil.

Probably bent the end of your shifter shaft when you went Godzilla on it. Congrats on it being a relatively inexpensive and easy fix.

definitely will be looking closely. I was missing an inspection cover screw for some reason so I am thinking the water was probably coming through there. Also I had never torqued anything properly so I went over all the bolts and did that. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I am also baffled that they would put such a tiny gauge piece of junk spring to retain the shaft forks.....sometimes engineers must think "hey let's do this and see how much money mechanics will make off of that poor design"

My 01 sporty was getting water in primary. Finally found where water was entering primary was where the stator wires came through the case.

Its probally to late to tell you my trick on the derby quad ring, I'll put 6 dots of contact cement on the ring and glue it in place on the primary, stays in place and i reuse it with no issues, yet.
