Default Rear fender chop

I'm gonna chop my rear fender on my Nightster. However I keep reading you cut the front of the fender and slide it forward. Mine has holes for where the license plate was as well as a big *** hole where the tail light was. I can't see cutting the front and sliding it forward working lol. So what has anyone else done with a fender like mine with the holes?

they all have the side holes. as for the taillight hole, just cover it up with a piece of leather. once you dismount the fender, play around with it and see how it lines up.

its attached where my solo saddle mounts to the fender, and also with an existing bolt from where a fender bag was mounted.

I don't know if the fender on your bike is like all sportster fenders, but i cut the fender on my 02. You have to be careful to cut below the strut. After that i relocated the tail light and Lic Plate to the side. You can see it here.

The fender people are chopping the front/rotating forward is the US Nightster/Iron/48/72 fender with out the tail light on the fender & they are the factory "bobbed" fender, not the longer style w/taillight/tag mounted on the back.

That looks just like my cut fender. I welded a slug from an electrical panel knock out on the backside. Then I finished filling it with weld, ground, filed and sanded it smooth and painted it.

Check out the rear fender in this thread.
