the only temp sensor on a sportster is on a that gauge on the oil tank... It moniters the oil temp but other than that there is nothing, and no cooling fans . Thats just the nature of the beast.

You asked if it would be reliable. With a radically altered engine that is not easy to say, hence my tongue in cheek comments about card and phone. That is an indirect way of saying - probably not! It is one thing to tune an engine within the limitations of the stock components (up to 1250cc is common), quite another to machine bigger holes in stock cases, especially on an older engine of that period. Harley engines of that era, including the big twins, have much thinner cases than say modern twincams.

I also pointed out that to go to such lengths in modifying that engine is very likely that it has other extreme mods as well, lending further weight to improved performance on one hand, but also the risk if significantly reduced service life and reliability on the other.

Would I buy it? Quite possibility! But to ride as an occasional treat. However my Firebolt goes very nicely....
