Default whats the deal with the fuel low light

alright I am no idiot but I do know that fuel lights are to come on at apre-progammed fuel level.
Ok... so ata total of 700 mile of total driving thelight comes on like clockwork at 80 to 85 miles on the trip meter and I get it filled before I hit 95 miles but eachtime I fillthe tank and theamount of fuel it takes to fill it variesconsiderably.. anywhere from 2.2gallons (lowest) to 3 gallons(highest)My driving habits are consistant. It seems like the fuel light goesby mileage and not actual fuel level. The tank as a 3.2 gallon capacity.
This time I have run it up to 105 miles (light came on at 85 miles)and I can hear quite a bit of fuel sloshing around...want to see how far I can stretch the mileage (hopefully) without running it out..
Something I like to do with all of my new vehicles.Helps to relieve the fuel light"on" panic.

I don't even know if my '05 1200Chas a low fuel light, at least I've never seen it. I just run it about 185 mi. from full then fill it again.

My 07 883 Custom does the same.I thought maybe I was getting terrible mileage or a gas leak.

Mine takes a lot longer to come on if I am on the highway and not leaning much, I think when you lean over at slow speads the fuel sloshes to one side and the sensor puts the light on, once it's on it stays on until you shut the bike down.

What Hotlap said. I have 1300 miles on my bike (increasing by 40/day) and my light comes on between 80-90 miles pretty consistently - 80 at the beginning, 90 now (about 45 mpg).

Apparently the lowfuel light is new with 07s (nopetcock, hence no reserve!)

my 07 883L it goes on at about 60mph even if i just filled up 5 miles ago and then it goes off when i slow down to about 45, itll be warrany so when i take it in for the 1,000mile rip-off ill have them fix that too. It seems like a lot of 07s are having that problem

On my 07 after about a month of riding my low indicator stayed on all the time..I believe it was a bad sensor. HD replaced it under warranty and it's been fine since.

Don't let em do the swapout until they have it in stock though - that part was on backorder last fall for about a month.

Here we go again! When you get gas, be sure that the bike is in the upright position when you turn the key and push the on button. On my bike, the fuel light comes on after burning 2.5 gallons.
