Thunder in the Hill Country rally 2021
I was out there for a few hours yesterday, Mansfield Park.
This morning I awoke to find an overcast sky and 60 degree temps. Not a bad day for a rally. I knew that by 10AM the clouds would burn off or take a turn for the worse.
I only live about 25mi from the rally site so I have a second cup before getting my gear loaded.
My mind wonders back to all of the rallies that I have been to over the years. Lots of wonderful memories. Many friends who have moved on, some taking the long nap.
Doing all of that reminiscing had me scratching my head, trying to remember the last rally that I've attended. Let me just say, more than a few years ago anyway.
Best I recall, maybe one of the Steel Pony rallies in New Orleans? It was a big rally that had made the national circuit. All of the big vendors were there.
Yeah, been a minute.
No need to pack for any more than a day trip cause sleeping on the ground has lost it's appeal. My son and daughter in law were attending and had a camp set up.
The threatening sky called for my rain jacket in a saddle bag. I noted that shade was a luxury at this site so maybe an umbrella?
In my minds eye I conjure up an image of hundreds of sweaty bikers in the sun during the heat of the day. So maybe an umbrella?
My wife came into the kitchen for coffee. She no longer rides so her interest is purely conversational.
I told her that if she wanted to locate me at the rally, I'd be the guy who was not wearing black. We both laughed and I got suited up.
Sure nuff.
I chose a long sleeve nylon fishing shirt for sun protection. A yellow one....to be cool, in the biblical sense, not the Harley sense.
Yep, the only guy not dressed in black.
Johnny Cash won't hold it against me. I'm sure of that.
I could go on about what all went on but I left before the fun started. If you have been to one, you been to them all.
Probably my last. Melancholy ya know?
