Wear your leathers, bring some good undies (Thermax or UnderArmour) and rain gear. We've got tons of snow up high this spring. The roads ought to be okay but the snow in the forest will keep the temperatures cool over the passes.
You folks have fun in Colorado.

Are you sure that you want to go in May? I used to live in Colorado, and May is just too unsure of the weather. Too cold, roads are still too sandy, still lots of snow in the mountains. Colorado ain't Houston. I'd wait until at least the first week in June.

Just keep your eye on the extended weather map. If the weather man gives an indication that it might snow just remember that at that time of year it'll be gone in 24 hours. There are several towns that have large hotsprings and good hotels. If you're close to one of them just spend an extra day in the pool, drinking beer and eating $10 hamburgers. Pagosa Springs, Glenwood Springs and STeamboat Springsare three of the best.

OK I have been working on the route and I think I have a pretty good one lots of twisty roads including million dollar HWY, Independence Pass and some others!
The way I have it right now we would leave on the 16th and ride to Clovis NM (aprox 600 miles)
Day 2 leave Clovis head to Lake City (aprox 400 miles)
Day 3 Lake City to Fraser (aprox 400 miles) This day we will hit million dollar hwy aspen and independence pass should be an amazing day!
Day 4 Fraser to Manitou Springs (aprox 300 miles) On this day we will go through the Rocky mountain National Park and past Echo Lake.
Day 5 Manitou Springs to Abiline (over 600 miles)
Day 6 Abiline to home (aprox 300 miles)

Pretty ambitious ride...are you sure you have those miles figured out right? The Clovis -Lake City ride just seems to be longer than 400? The day from Lake City to Fraser will be a good one but I believe the Million Dollar Highway is in another direction (Durango to Ouray)...not that it matters but I don't want you to think you're somewhere when you're not. You'll be covering some high elevations (Independance Pass and Trail Ridge Road) so be sure to pack some heavy undies, leathers and rain gear. Helmets would also be nice just from the point of keeping your head warm. Also, wear something around your neck to keep the wind out of your jacket. Because you'll be doing a lot of riding you're not gonna' want to spend a lot of time in the tourist shops (Aspen, Estes Park) or you'll fall behind schedule. Remember that mountain traffic usually moves slower during tourist season.
