I'm sorry...... lol! I just moved to SA from Houston.

IMO - Katy would work best. good schools, close to SA, great shopping, good churches, lots of traffic downtown - but, has a decent HOV.

Several of the suggestions are great suggestions. Depends on what you want. I would take a weekend and wander around. Also look to see what districts are lookng for teachers.

WELCOME to Houston! Give me a shout once you get settled!

I live in the woodlands. Like said, good food all around, good shopping if thats your thing, good roads all around, and most of all, its a good, safe area. Its also close to I45 which will take you straight into downtown.

The NW area is nice but also booming. So traffic can be a pain.

But a few minutes riding north of Tomball the roads and countryside is great for riding.

I've "lived" here for 10 months working a project in the Medical Center. People tell me Katy is nice, but I've yet to go there. Sugar Land (southwest of town) was recently listed as one of the 10 safest communities in the country to live. It's a short shot to I-10 on the way to San Antonio.

There is NO safe place in town to ride. Gotta get out of town to enjoy the riding. The backroads down to Galveston is a fun ride. You'll love the Lone Star Rally in November.

I'm in Kingwood - good schools, lots of trees. Good rides on the east side of town and up north. Woodlands is nice - I see lots of bikes out that way. But to echo most everyone else in here, live CLOSE to your work unless you don't mind the bus or sitting idly in traffic. Horrible traffic here. I worked down by Reliant for almost two years and was miserable driving from Kingwood, pushing an hour each way.

I've lived here in Houston on the northwest side all my life and it's a nice area, but it's getting more & more crowded by the day. Hwy. 290 in to and out of town sucks. The Katy area is a nice place with good schools. I would suggest looking in the area just northwest, west, & southwest of Katy. The I-10 corridor has gone through some major changes and the trip from Katy to the H.O.V. lane at Hwy. 6 heading into Houston is much improved.

Good luck and welcome to Houston.

Current update, I have been in Houston now since the 11th of March. I am currently staying with friends until I get an apartment or the wife comes up. Currently my wife has a contract to work in CY-Fair ISD, BUT the school is to be determined after May. She also had an interview, with good chances of an official offer, for Fall Creek Elementary in Humble ISD in Fall creek master planned community.

I know the traffice on 290 sucks. BUT which area is better. or equivalent to my home in San Antonio.
San Antonio home is in NEISD, close to bulverde rd and loop 1604.

I am also traveling back to San Antonio every weekend and back to Houston every sunday.

All the input so far is greatly appreciated.
