Jerry,
This is a ride every Texan must do.I'd (without a doubt) take Hwy 90 out to Marathon and over to Alpine. It's raw Texas at it finest.Hwy 90 is like you went back in time plus you get to see the Pecos high bridge and Judge Roy Bean museum.Pat is absolutely right about the ride from Alpine to Study Butte on hwy 118,it's friggin awesome but hwy 170 from Terlingua to Presidio is the best ride in Texas IMHO.Then I'd take hwy 67 from Presidio to Marfa and Hwy 17 to Ft.Davis.This is the first time in four years that I've not gone to Big Bend in October [&o] and it sucks.

Please let me know if you have any questions.I can give you names of places to stay (Pat mentioned most of them) and good places to eat.If I were you,I'd plan a week for the ride so you can make the most of it.Once you go,you'll want to go right back.

I dug out a few pictures from past rides to show off.

Pecos high bridge on hwy 90.

Sunrise ride that JW mentioned.

The wife and I heading into Study Butte from the Ghost Town.

Riding op to the Chisos Mountains.

The Ghost Town.

View from the front porch of the Ghost town.

Somewhere on hwy 170 toward Presidio.

Thanks Stump...those are some GREAT pics.
I'm pretty excited about this and I owe it all to some mag at my doctor's office.
Who says it doesn't pay off to visit the ol' saw-bones?
The doc had this magazine in his waiting room and I saw that road on the cover and thought "OMG! That's in TX? I've gotta ride there!"

I'm definitely gonna get as much info from you folks as I get this going.
I don't know if I have a week to spare at the office, but hey, I'll do what I can.

Damn it Craig. Seeing the pic's just makes me want to go back NOW. We had a ball riding down there and can't wait to see it again.
