Default Cherokee Rally -- Camp or Hotel?

Need some info from someone who has been there, is camping or a hotel the way to go, I want to be close to the action and have a place to park a truck and trailer if needed. I will be leaving from Fort Mill on Thursday afternoon most likely anyone looking to leave around the same time can contact me via pm.

I've been and moteled in Gatlinburg for about 50 bucks a night. I bought the rally pass for 30 bucks for 3 days. We went a couple of nights. I thought it was rather "actionless." I guess all the rowdiness is in the campgrounds somewhere. It sure wasn't at the rally. They rolled up the streets about midnight.

The ladies requested a cabing...so thats where we're staying in Bryson City...pretty reasonable around 125.00 off the mountain side. Check out a few of the sites around the rally and Dragons Tail, the two are fairly close to each other.

I've been to Cherokee a few times. Plenty of motels to stay in. Don't forget about Maggie Valley just across the mountain,(Soco Mtn) about 20 miles away. Lots of places to stay there too. There will be a rally going on there to, it's called Thunder in the Smokeys. Usually has a good turn out. I'll be riding up to Maggie Valley this weekend, probably not going to make the ralley, but there's always September's Ralley in the Valley to look forward to.

FYI: I don't if it's still this way, but Cherokee is DRY. It's a BYOB town. I know folks that stayedin Gatlinburg (wet)for that reason.

Anyone that is staying in G'burg, check out Rocky Waters Motor Inn. It has great covered parking. If you use their rate charts, the room shows $109 a night. However, I booked a couple of nights last weekend thru Orbitz for 49 bucks. If you use Orbitz, it comes up as a Days Inn.
