Default Georgia Motorcycle Tax?

Can someone explain to me how to calculate sales tax and county fees in Georgia? I've asked a few folks and keep getting different answers.

I think private party sales are exempt from some of the taxes, but a dealer sale seems to have a state tax and county millage and ad valorem?

Just me or is this way too complicated? lol

Thanks for any feedback...

I can't answer your question on the calculations.

But when I lived in NW GA back in the 90's, private party sales were taxable. Don't know if that has changed or not now.

just call your local county tag agency and ask them

they will tell you exactly what your taxes are

as for the private party versus dealer, the dealer has to report everything at the actual sale price

you can choose to tell the county the sale was actually less then the sale price

i.e. you bought it for $15k but only report it as $11k sale

Private party sales are not taxable* but there is an ad-valorem tax (bikes, cars, etc.) but I don't recall how that's calculated.

*unless they changed that recently.

All depends on what county you live in but either way we are getting ripped off like all the damn taxes we pay.
