Depends on what you're riding and your tolerence to cold.
If you're riding a full fairing bike, you can ride pretty much year round in full leathers.
For me, I ride a Fat Boy with a windshield. Without the luxury of a full fairing, I have an assortment of heated gear that I use to ride pretty much year round.
Of course there are a hand full of days each year when ice and snow won't permit you to ride.

My numbers not quite as high as the others, but our lower limit is probably a bit higher. lol
One of the key diff. between here and Ohio is here it will usually warm up.
When you wake up in Ohio to 40* temps - its still 40* at 2:00.
Here the morning starts out at 40* but it will be 60*+ at noon.
We went on a ride a few years ago and rode in snow flurries in the morning but it was 68* that afternoon.
If you have school age kids; stay out of Mecklenburg County.

No kids to worry about. Wife is an RN so her finding work should be easy. I'm a machinist also have a strong background in boating. I'm thinking I may have a hard time finding work, but I should be ready to retire in 8 yrs. Used to race boats at High Point back in the mid 70s-82. Wondered if getting a machinist job for a NASCAR team is possible, or is there a line out the door for those type of jobs.
Keep the info coming, thanks.

Well, I have visited Phoenix and from an outsider's point of view I would never leave there for Charlotte. Lake Norman is big money big boating country... just a few miles north of Charlotte. I hated the traffic while I was there... and the place didn't offer enough to offset sitting in traffic for hours of my life. If you like Nascar it's good. Nice NHRA racing too. Expensive to live anywhere that is convenient. It is the banking capital of the Southeast and has Atlanta envy. I liked the Mooresville area but never lived there.

im from the gastonia area which is 30 mins or so from charlotte an im a cnc machinist/programmer been one for about 18 yrs now... plenty of machine shops around as well as plenty of mold shops etc... i seriously doubt you would have any trouble finding a job... as far as nascar goes.. lol well its a great oppurtunity but from what i understand its a contract type employment... i myself, not interested in that type of work... i tend to stick with the "job shop" type places... but thats me..
