Biketoberfest via Skyline, Blue Ridge, and Deals Gap
ORIGINAL POST (10 JULY 2011):
Will be riding down to Biketoberfest from Massachusetts.
My plan is...
1. Skyline Drive in Virginia.
2. Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and N.Carolina.
3. Deals Gap and the Cherohala Skyway in Tennessee.
I'm trying to build my points of interest along the way and maintain a realistic time line.
My plan is to spend three days traveling those roads.
So... I'm looking for input on...
1. Over nights... both motels and campgrounds.
2. Places to chow.
2. Points-of-Interest... "must see" stuff along the way.
3. Information on law enforcement and speed limit precautions.
Also any information on any "must see" stuff in vicinity of I-75 through Georgia.
Appreciate anything you can contribute! Thanks in advance!
JD
ADDED INFORMATION POST (11 JULY 2011):
I have a map that is a "work-in-progress" that may be useful to others interested in a Blue Ridge Parkway trip... http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...f1642689f60072
Keep checking back on it as I add points-of-interest etc. If you know of interesting places, views, etc, along the map route I will be traveling please let me know! We appreciate it!

"must-see" depends on you.....what tickles YOUR fancy......
We had 5 bikes swap the lead on our week long BRP ride. we stopped for attractions, I would not have, and I had a great time doing so.
D-Day Memorial in Bedford VA would be a must see....
Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton VA (mile post 1 BRP) was a smashing hit for food (great micro-brew too)
Station's inn, Freebournes in Laurel Springs NC
campgrounds
Willville, near Floyd VA
rocky **** near Marby Mill VA
Iron Horse, or Kickstand Stenoh NC
Speed limit is posted and enforced.... if you don't go "crazy" 10 over is fine....usually they'll just wave you to slow down..... but as with any road.... you take your own chances.
Becareful around the "decreasing radius curves" they aren't bad.. but COULD bite you. and beware of the tunnels..... riding in bright daylight, and heading into a tunnel, will wreck havok with your vision (plus the worse road surfaces seem to be INSIDE those tunnels

3 days is the minimum... FOR ME....I'd spend 4 on the skyline, and BRP..... but...

The map is a work-in-progress. I will be editing it right up to the day I'm out the door in October.
