Default Bypassing Atlanta

I am leaving the Clearwater area and I want to use Rt 19 to Pittsburg PA. Don't want to go through Atlanta or even on the Interstate bypasses. Anyone have a good route?

You might consider US 80 towards Macon then US 129 to Athens and points beyond.

Thanks, that looks pretty easy on the map. Looks like 129 runs with 19 once we get pretty far north.

Eh, isn't US129 that really fun road known as the Tail of the Dragon?

FWIW (and you're into Civil War stuff) just north of Americus, GA on Hwy 49 is the Andersonville National Historic Site. You can stay on Hwy 49 and join US 129 in Macon.

Also, on US 19 in Maggie Valley, NC is Wheels Through Time museum...certainly worth a stop in you're in the area.

Last but not least, while you said you didn't really want to ride the interstate, I-81 up Virginia is really not a bad ride. And if I do that road, I always stop at Wattstull Inn. It's just north of Roanoke and a great little family-owned/operated motel sitting up on the side of the big hill (yes, it's paved all the way up) with really nice views of the mountains in the distance.

OK, I have no association with any of these places...have been at each one, had good experiences, and would visit them all again.

Hope that helps!
