who's going to Stergis from Charlotte area.
I am trying to decide if I want to go. I have never even come close to riding that far. I have a coworker who is going with a friend and I could ride with them, however I think they are going to rush out there and back as quick as possible. I would like to do a little more leisurely trip. I,m just trying to get some info such as, how long you plan on taking there and back, how long your staying, how many in your group, will you be camping and any other info you can share.

I live in the Columbia SC area and I'm trying to decide if I want to go (torn between Sturgis or a trip to the Grand Canyon). If I go it will be a 2 weeks trip, 14 days Saturday to 2nd Sunday. Six days total riding there and back (three each way,Interstate most likely), four days at Sturgis and four days up to the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area. I'd be camping on the way up and back trying to stay at KOA's on the road. In Sturgis I'd be staying at the Iron Horse Campground. Not sure about where I'd be staying up toward Yellowstone - KOA in Cody, KOA in West Yellowstone are possibilities but not in the park itself. Feel free to PM me - I lived about 6 hours from Sturgis for a couple of years and know the area fairly well.

It's roughly an 1800 mile one-way trip. If you can do 600 miles/day, ya got 3 days of traveling one way. That doesn't really take into account any sight-seeing. 6 days of traveling to and from. I've wanted to do sturgis for a long time, it just never panned out that way. My plan is to ride. F#CK a trailer... I'll make my pilgrimage someday.

FWIW, I ride to the Black Hills each year but not for the Sturgis Rally.
This year I'm leaving Atlanta on or about July 19th. Normally I take the interstate to just east of St Louis the first day then up past Davenport, IA the second day.
The rest of the ride is back roads across Iowa, into Nebraska, and then up into South Dakota. This westbound trip usually takes me about 4 days.
The return trip is based on my time available, weather, and a flip of the coin...and about 4 or 5 days coming back.
Hope that helps!
