Default Rattle the Runway 2008 Virginia

The 2008 Rattle the Runway commerative ride will be on Sunday, 14 Sept 2008.
For those of you who haven't riden in this, it's along the lines of the Rolling Thunder event. Bikes ride from Dulles where the flight took off from and ride to the Pentagon for a brief ceremony in memory of those who perished on 9-11-01. The ride details can be found at: http://www.rattletherunwayride.com/index.htm
The ride is police escorted with the entire route from Dullas via I-66 to the Pentagon closed down for the ride. The ride forms up at the Space and Air Museum.

If riders from Northern Virginia would like to meet up somewhere and ride in as a group, I would be glad to make the plans.

A good starting/meet-n-greet point could be Devil Dawg Custom Cycles in Chantilly. They will open early (6:00am) and offer Starbucks coffee and bagels. From there, a Police-escorted ride will leave at 8:00am for the airport staging area.

I think I would like to participate. I have never done any bike rides. Would this be a okay one to start. I drive the route all the time so I'm sure I'll be comfortable with the road just the number of riders worry me. I have heard some pretty scary riding stories with riding in such large groups.

thanks
bill

Hey bill, it won't be a problem. There will be over 3,000 bikes in this ride. It isn't like ya have to stay in a tight formation. Just ride along in your comfort zone. There will be places where the riders speed up and the gap opens, and other places where it bunches up and things slow down. Just like normal traffic. Ya just stay in line and you'll be ok.

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the info. It sounds like I can handle it. I live in Fredericksburg so if there's a group from this area that want to ride up I'd like to join in.

Thanks
bill

I will lead a ride up from N. Stafford, VA to Devil Dawg Customs, on the morning of the ride.
A police escort will lead the group from DDC over to the Space and Air Museum at 0800, so we would need to be there before that if ya want coffee and bagels.
I propose we meet up at the flag pole of the Aquia Town Plaza at the exit 143A I-95 at 0600. A one hour ride up Rt. 1 to Rt. 234 to Rt 3000 to Rt. 28 to DDC.
If not enough takers, I'll do the depart from Aquia Town at 0730 so we can make it to the opening ceremonies at 0900 at the Space and Air Museum.

My service writer at work, made a comment, and I agree, no one comes to this section of the forum. Might want to post this in the high traffic areas for better response.

Good, there are two people that ride up at our body shop, and they are coming.

My service writer backed out as the redskins play that day and he has season tickets.

Still on my make it unless the world ends list.

I'm just down the road from Devil Dawg Custom Cycles in Chantilly, so I'm going to show up there in time for coffee and bagels.

You can spot me, I'll have the black mesh jacket with floressent (sp) yellow reflective tape on it. My plate says E9DONE. 5'11' stick kind of guy. 06 road king custom with a dragon fairing, and lowers.
