NC Helmet Laws
I hate to rehash this, but I was told the other day that if caught wearing a non DOT helmet besides the ticket there would also be 2 insurance points against the driver. Anyone know if this is true. I can understand 2 drivers license points. I thought this would be a improper equipment ticket not a moving violation ticket. anyone and please dont tell me what I should or should not be wearing, I already know the anwser to that. thanks

RE: NC Helmet Laws
Contact your local ABATE... CBA of NCBOLT.... there are several people fighting the tickets and there is getting to be a pretty good body of evidence that you can use to fight this law...
Asking people on the forum.... might send you down the wrong path.... contact those who are involved in fighting the law

I have a DOT, actually several but to me the wind buffeting is more dangerous so I still use my non-DOT. I have passed countless State Troopers, county sheriff's and city cops on the road and have several follow me for miles and no problems.

RE: NC Helmet Laws
I'm not going to tell you what to where and they shouldn't be able to either. \\; I haven't heard anything about points but it's the hassle of dealing with getting held on the side of the road and possibly having the bike impounded that made me just wear a damn DOT helmet from now on. \\; If it were just a ticket, ride on, and go to court later, I'd be more inclined to push my luck and fight it later. \\; I've actually gotten used to the look and the feel of the helmet and find no reason to ditch it. \\; I just don't like the fact that I'm required to wear it.
