Alexander County, Any local back road works for me.
Hwy. 64 to Lake Lure, 126 around Lake James and up 181 to the high country near you are all good rides.
Welcome.

Grew up in Transylvania County. Now live in Cabarrus County. Most of my rides end up leading me somewhere between Murphy and Boone. Blue Ridge Parkway, Waynesboro to Cherokee once a year.

Welcome from Murphy! Too many great riding roads to remember them all. Foothills Pkwy, Moonshiner 28, and the Cherohala Skyway are some of my favorites.

Hey I just stumbled on this thread. I’m in Marion near Lake James. I ride all over here exploring new roads and small towns. I love the fact that I can take off in any direction and not get bored.

Great to hear because that is what we are looking forward to doing. Basically we want to explore every state in this Southeast Region.

Here's a bunch of roads I've thought were better than average within reasonable distance from Morganton. I didn't include the BRP. These are screenshots from Garmin Basecamp. I'll gladly share the KMZ file so one can view these tracks and routes in a GPS or Google Earth, just PM me with your email if your interested.

Jim this is great info and I appreciate you sharing. I think what you have is fantastic and worth exploring. No need to send any coordinates because the wife and I like to get "lost" and see what we can find.

This is last weeks get lost ride. Some really pretty country with virtually no traffic.

How old is that photo?

That looks like Tom Greers Store. Intersection of NC18S and Boomer Road. I used to live 1.5 miles from there. There is a Super Dollar there now and Toms store has been "on the ground" at least 2 years, probably more.
