RE: Softail Custom Pictures
Have you ridden with a Corbin seat before? It seems people either love them or hate them. My sister has one on her Sportster, and she doesn't care for it too much. She likes the look of it, butit's hard as a rock. She has about 2,000 miles on that seat also. They say it only needs a few hundred to break it in good. She got a gel pad to put over the seat, and now she's happy with it. I really like the look of Corbin seats, but I doubt I'll buy one after sitting on my sister's. I'd rather have a cushion that fits to my butt, than a hard seat that fits to my butt. I look forward to seeing it on your bike, though. Sounds like it'll look pretty cool!

The seat is definitely harder than the stock seat, but I don't mind it. The longest ride I've done with it was about 175 miles. My butt started to hurt a little toward the end, but nothing unbearable. I just put mine on at Christmas, so it's probably not completely broken in yet. I'm sure it'll break in a little bit more and get more comfortable. I had a HD Stripper seat on my last bike (Deuce), and I did quite a few 200+ mile rides with it and didn't have any problems. My wife didn't really like riding on the back of the Stripper seat, though. She's ok with the Retro seat for around town, but the stock seat will be put back on for longer rides if she comes along. I'm gonna keep the Retro seat on for the most part, and see how my butt handles it on some longer rides after it breaks in completely. So I guess the answer to your question after all that rambling is that, yeah, my seat is hard, but I don't think it's that bad.

L2R - Yep, no doubt the Corbins are hard seats, there is quite a bit about that on their website. I'm not sure what to make of your sister's experience, butCorbin says the break-in timeis 2000-3000 miles; no small investment.Maybe it's like an initiation into a fraternity, once your butt puts up with that for so long you gottalike it! But I don't know anybody who would trade theirs for long trips. The workmanship is second to none, it's made of real leather, it has aplace for a removabledriver backrest,it has a tallerpassenger backrest, andthey custom make them. The wayI see it,worst case is I'll have a really cool looking seat for around town that I'llpull off and replace with stock for long trips. But I doubt that will happen.

I doubt I will ever put the origonal seat back on mine as I have never liked it since the day I first sat on it.
I like hard seats they don't sqish down after U have been doing a lot of miles. Also they hold U in place better.
I thought my Retro Seat was like a rock when I first put it on after being on the cusion that was the seat before. I wondered if I had done the right thing. Now I could not imagine riding with any thing else. I find it very comfortable. My 12 year old son grumbles about the rear seat but its not his bike yet so doesn't matter as long as I am enjoying the scenery go buy.

I had a Corbin on my last bike for 15 years. Liked it a lot for that bike.
The seat even had an indentationwhere I wear my wallet in my back pocket, so they definately conform to your butt.
That being said, I like the stock seat and if I change it, it will be with a localupholsterer to let me move just a little further back.
As I have said earlier, the biggest problem with our seats is removing them. Those two nuts and loose bolts are a design flaw.

I ordered the new corbin seat yesterday. They sent me an email say it would be 3-4 weeks before the seat would be shipped.I rode to Ocean city last summer when it was hot and with the stock seat after about 3hrs it was a real pain in the a**. So I try the corbin as soon as thr weather here in western Maryland permits.

Just curious, Craz, but how did you order yours? Did you go with any of the optional inserts, etc., or basic black?A rider backrest?
Also, I agree with Mike about the two nuts and washers being a lousy design on HD's part. I don't know what is holding the heads of those bolts inside there, and I keep thinking that if itever failed those bolts would just turn in there and I'd never get the seatoff.

Well, I ordered my saddlebags almost two weeks ago, and they still haven't come in. The mounting hardware and the turn signal relocation kit did come in, so those willbe put on tomorrow. I don't know what the hold up is on the saddlebags. They looked in the computer when I ordered them, and they were going to be coming from GA, and I live in SC. It shouldn't take that long to get here. Oh well. They'll get here when they get here, and not a moment sooner.

TheMrs and Irode up to the dealer today to see if by chance my saddlebags came, and sure enough they did. So whilewe werethere I went ahead and asked if they could just install the hardware and stuff for me. They told me it would only take about an hour and a half, so we waited for it. While we're lookin' around the store and checkin' out different bikes (they got in a new Cross Bones which looks really cool in person) the service manager comes up to me. He tells me that there was a accident in the back. I figured he was jokin' with me like the guys up there tend to do (we go up there a lot so I know the guys pretty well). Well, sure enough there was a small accident. The tech that was puttin' the stuff on my bike dropped the sissy bar on my rear fender as he was holding it and unbolting it, and it scratched the fender. They're gonna fix it for me by touching it up and getting it cut and buffed. He said I won't be able to tell there was anything wrong with it. I should be able to pick it up late tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, they gave me a '08 Anneversary Edition Street Glide Anneversary. My wife loved ridin' on the back of it because of the really wide backrest and she liked the radio too. I gotta say, it's not a bad bike at all. I wish it sat a little lower because I'm a short guy, but it rode really nice. I won't be gettin' rid of my bike for one anytime soon, though. I look forward to gettin' my bike back with the bags installed and the fender lookin' like new. I'm really glad they told me about the mishap and are makin' things right.
