Let me get back to you on that,I'm at work now so its not here and I don't have the time to check it out right now.
Besides I thinkit would be better if I candig up my old light to see exactly how its shaped. On first impulse, and from memeoryI would say you could do it, but I need to see my old one to be sure. I suspect that it "may" need a little reinforcing to withstand the loads without the bottom section, but let me check it out and I'm sure Ican come up with something for you by this evening.

Hi there,

there is no color change in the plastic....you need to cut quite high in order to keep it looking like you didnt cut it....if you know what i mean!!!! Before you do it, i am not sure that i like the look....the bob tail fender with just a tail light looks a bit strange to me...believe me i have spent some time analysing this situation....maybe i neeed to change the tail light, maybe the turn signals?? im just not sure.
For me the bobtail with just the light sits to high from the rear.....just a thought.....
The license plate holder came from DEBRIX on Ebay....

Hope that helps

Let me know how it goes......
PS: you could always get a luggage rack that mounts by the fender struts

Citoriplus - Thanks! butno hurry - the bike is going in for it's 1K this week, then I'm out of town for a bit, it will be a couple ofweeks before I can tackle this project. Any thoughts on any "can't do withouts" while the bike's already in on the 1K? I'm thinking about a cam...but I'm also hearing on the '07 96s a cam doesn't do much without additional top end work...

Jumporjerkoff - Thanks for the additional info as well. I'll take a good long look at this before I start cutting. I really wanted to find an aftermarket replacement - knowing that if I didn't like it, I could just slap the stock piece back on. So - I guess I'm still making up my mind. Not sure what's not to likeabout the tail end of yours - looks great to me.

Good, because Ican't find the old light. I 'thought' I had stashed it in one of the cabinets in the garage, but I can't get at two of them because except for barely enough room to walk to mybike the damn thing is full of furnature from my house and my father in laws. He turned 93 last Febuary and after another bout with his heart last month the wife made him move in with us so she/we can keep tabs on him.
Rest assured I'll keep looking, its just going to take a bit more time than I though to dig it up from under all the carnage.

Thanks, and no rush. Bike goes in this weekend, then I won't see it for almost two weeks, we're on vacation. The wife is already pretty sure I'll suffer some kind of withdrawal / anxiety attack by the third day - but what she doesn't know yet - I've arranged to slip a day trip to Rossmeyers' Destination Daytona...Mickey and Shamu are one thing - but would a trip toCentral Florida be complete without a visit tothat place? I think not. They'll all be happy about it - won't they? Wish me luck.

Hi all,
Just joined the forums. Picked up my '08 Custom last weekend and am loving it. The stock pipes don't sound so bad, I will change them out next year, but around $1000 for everything is a bit pricey. The only two drawbacks I have seen with the bike so far is the idle speed (going in on Friday to have it adjusted down) and the fact that the bike weighs so much and leans so far on the kickstand, you have to carry a puck with you everywhere. Great ride and my wife loves it much more then my '05 Sporty. Been reading the posts for a while now, seems like a great bunch of people.

Hey Wolfen...where's the pics???? Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you'll enjoy your new FXSTC! As for the stock pipes, I agree with the sound but never really rode mine with the stock pipes. As for the weight/lean on the kickstand, you do need to be somewhat careful, especially on black-top lots and road side parking. I carry a puck now after I came out one day from a bar and my kickstand eas 3/4 - 1" deep into the road.

I'll bet your wife see's a major ride difference between the Sporty and the Softail. The King/Queen seat is awesome.

Enjoy your new ride!!!

Welcome to the nut house, but as the MSgt saidwe wanna seepics, its part of the price of admission.
Just be careful, or you'll go as nutty about your bike as the rest of us are about ours, oh wait thats a good thing.

Bah, I can't get the upload on the pic to work either. Keeps saying path not found. I had no problem posting my Sportster pictures in the classified section. The bike is completely stock at this point anyway and I was just going to post the stock photo till I get some photos of the wife in a bikini laying on the bike. Ok, so that is not going to happen, but maybe one of the bike in the driveway with the dog in the background! The stock photo is on the HD site, color is Vivid Black. They had a red one at the dealer also, but the black seemed to set the chrome off better.

Ok, a quick question while I am on. I put a luggage rack on the back, and now I would like to get a sissy bar bag. One that can hold a couple of jackets (like a weekender). I really don't want to buy one from the dealer for $400 but I am not sure what kind will fit over the '08 sissy bar. Any suggestions?
