Premium fuel doesn't burn any cleaner. Octane is just a measure of of fuel's resistance to detonate. In fact, if you don't have the compression or timing advance to require premium, too high an octane can actually result in unburned fuel, which encourages those kind of deposits. I alternate fillups between premium and mid-grade, and the bike runs great. I skip the mid-grade though during the hottest days of summer, or if I'm taking a ride to the desert.

I was reading this morning they are approving using as high as 15% methanol in gas pretty soon. Should be pretty good to go with the premium now, I'll be about 10.5:1 and a good ignition curve.
