Well first of all CONGRATS ..you got a GREAT bike ...I imagine the fact it runs ruff when you crank it when its cold is due to the Carb .... the injected models for the most part do not have that prblem ..but then again you will never get the sound out of an injected bike that you can out of a carb bike .... take your time and do it right ...look at a lot of the sharp bikes on here and get ideas ...then make it what YOU want it ... ride safe br'o

Splinter, I for one prefer a carb, except when starting on cold days. Just learn the choke routin. I twist my throttle 2 or 3 times, pull the choke out and it fires right up even on the coldest days.
Get yourself a S&S or Mikuni 42mm carb, a nice set of pipes and a stage 1 aircleaner and you'll have all the noise and gitty up you need. I favor the V&H Big Shot Staggered myself. Try to avoid saving money by getting slip on's. You'll just up grade to full header pipes anyway.

I was thinking aboutgoing with the S&S and just use the S&S air cleaner to. The v&h pipes are what I am going with I have had 2 people suggest them already. I wouldnt dare get slip ons I am going with the full headers. Whatssucks ismy choke doesnt stay out. I pull it out and it just pops back in I have to hold it out. Starting it is ok its just sucks that I have to sit there and hold the throttle open long enough for it to get hot just so it will run. My moms is like that to though they are just cold natured I guess. Oh well it runs great all the same.

Re: your choke. There is a collar around the base where you choke slides in and out. Turn it clock wise and it will tighten up so the choke will stay out. Easy.

grzly hey brother is it your headlight?

My moms light on her 86 softail keeps burning out

My buddy duck has a 92 softail and his entire lighting system out it would come on the flicker a bit then go out.

Give me more details and I will see if its the same

My low beam kept messing up and I would have to change from high beam to low beam like 5 times for it to come on.
Come to find out my ground was loose.

griz, I don't know squat about fuel injection and hope I always have a carb, but I had apaaing light that keep going out. I tried a new bulb and that didn't help so I bought a newer set of passing lamps and no more problem.
