Fat Boy Pictures

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
I have the Harley low profile light smoked. I use it with a full face open face and half helmet and no problem. It's a thousand times better than with no helmet. These pics should be better.

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
Very nice. The new pictures are a lot easier to check out.
Concerning the windshield, how tall are you and how fast do you drive with it?
I am 5' 11" and my SE seat is an inch or more lower than yours. I wear a full face, so the wind doesn't bother me until I get to 70 and over. Even than it isn't that bad, but I haven't taken any long high speed trips.

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
I'm right at 6 ft. I ride a little of everything although with the 6 speed I find myself running 75 or so on the 4 lane more than before. Friends have the taller windshield and they like it but not for me. One friend has a Windvest on his Deluxe and he likes it real well. With all the chrome you have on your bike you might want to check it out. Only because they take the wind off of you and cover less up on the bike. Good luck...

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
I have the king size detachable on my SE and love it. This model is 2 inches higher than the compact version shown above. No buffeting at all. I'm 5'9" on a Sundowner seat and still look through it. I eventually cut it down 2 inches and now look over it. I wish they made a darkly tinted windshield instead.
I would not even consider a long trip without the windshield. I will often remove the windshield once at my destination and leave it in camp or in the room for local touring.

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
The FatBoy I purchased came with a HD detachable windshield that is 20" from the headlight cut out to the top. I don't wear a helmet, but did notice quite a bit of buffeting at higher speeds. Nothing all that bad, but having never used a windshield on any of my bikes before the buffeting was noticeable.
I replaced the windshield with a 18" Cee Bailey (using the existing hardware). The Cee Bailey is 'thicker' and doesn't flex as much, not sure if this is one of the reasons, but I have much less buffeting. I can cruise down the road, smoking a cigarette, with no problem.
The 18" Cee Bailey is the perfect height for me. I can look over it during normal riding, but can also 'crunch down a little' and look through it if needed. I'm a little over 6' 1 1/2" tall, and the main wind blast is still directed over my head.

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
Thanks for all the good information.
Taildraggerdave,
I guess I was asking you the same questions on the SE forum.
If I understand you correctly, your windshield is basically the same as Bubbalel's except yours was 2" higher. Other than that, are they the same shape and width? So if you had bought the same size as Bubbalel has, you wouldn't have had to cut it down? Do you think his model will also clear the tach?
I am 5' 11", using the stock SE seat, so with my setup, I should have approx.the same line of sight as you do, with your taller seat. I will look into the low profile detachable model.
Could you tell me what your measurementis after cutting from headlight cutout to top of w/s?
OldFenderGuy,
Do you think that the taller the windshield the more air it pushes around, resulting in more buffeting?
Probably forces more air under the w/s and up the front of your body.
My other concern was clearance for the SE tach. I know the model Taildraggerdave has will fit, since he also has a SE Fat Boy.
Thanks again,
Tom

RE: Fat Boy Pictures
Here's a pic of my dad's bike with a Windvest, that clears it's way for a tach. This windvest is actually for a sporty. Some or most Sportys have that Speedo/tach combo on their handlebars, and the fella at Windvest suggested this screen. This one is a Smoked 16' Vest. I have the 14' cause I also plan on adding a tach to mine. Just a little sup'n, sup'n for the road.
